The Brady Hunter Scholarship Fund for Veterinary School

We are thrilled to introduce the Brady Hunter Scholarship Fund, a partnership between the Brady Hunter Foundation (BHF) and New York City Mayor Eric Adams. Established in honor of Juneteenth, this initiative aims to empower African American students in New York City and promote diversity within the veterinary field.

The field of veterinary medicine, while playing a crucial role in animal health and welfare, faces a significant shortage of African American representation. This underrepresentation not only hampers diversity within the profession but also limits the opportunities available to African American individuals who aspire to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. Understanding the statistics surrounding this issue sheds light on the urgency of addressing the imbalance.

According to data from the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), African Americans make up only a small percentage of practicing veterinarians in the United States. As of the latest available data, African Americans represent less than 2% of all veterinarians, despite comprising over 13% of the U.S. population.

Recognizing the urgency of this issue, the Brady Hunter Foundation is taking action. During each year of the Adams’ Administration, our scholarship fund will provide a new four-year scholarship, covering tuition expenses, to an exceptional African American student in New York City. This financial support will enable each year’s selected student to pursue a degree in veterinary medicine, a field that greatly benefits from increased diversity.

Through the establishment of the Brady Hunter Scholarship Fund, we aim to empower African American students in New York City by providing these students with the financial support and opportunities they need to pursue a degree in veterinary medicine. By investing in these students’ education, we aspire to break down barriers and inspire more African American students to join the field.

We are honored to collaborate with Mayor Eric Adams, whose commitment to fostering diversity and promoting equal opportunities aligns perfectly with our mission. The Brady Hunter Scholarship Fund embodies BHF’s unwavering commitment to equality, justice, and expanding educational opportunities. We firmly believe in the transformative power of education to break down barriers and create a brighter future for individuals and communities.
